Ever since hearing about this I have always been inspired and intrigued by the Scandinavian way of life. When the Scandi trends of ‘Hygge’ and ‘Lagom’ were introduced to me I straight away delved into a ton of research about this way of living and loved it! I could write alot about my passion for the Scandinavian way of living, all the research I have done has given me an insight into this wonderful lifestyle. This won’t be the only time I write about this type of stuff on my blog!I thought today I would write 3 simple ways in which you can be happy with enough. In our way of life it can be difficult to be content with what is ‘enough’ to us personally however, I have read a wonderful book about living ‘Lagom’ and there were 3 simple ways that spoke to me the most that I wanted to share on my blog in the hope that they may also help you to feel happy with ‘enough.’
- Accept Being ‘Good Enough’ – In Lagom embracing being ‘good enough’ is essential. Being able to understand the cost of our own decisions and being happy with them is an important skill to learn. For example; Do you want a ‘traditional’ job and have less money worries but also less flexibility? Or perhaps wanting to be a freelancer which can involve financial worries but will allow more creative freedom. Being ‘good enough’ is all about identifying our own desires and strengths and also letting ourselves be satisfied with the outcome. Being ‘good enough’ is not about being the best. I think that’s an important thing to remember if you want to feel happy with ‘enough.’
- View Buying Things Abit Differently – We live in an age where I personally think we thrive with the convenience of items but end up being extremely wasteful. For example; We buy lots of different clothes that are cheap and then just discard them! This is the total opposite of how our grandparents generation would of lived. I love that the Lagom way is to buy good quality items first-time around, second-hand items where you can and to always try and repair/mend things when they become broken or worn. This will not only benefit the environment but will also keep your wallet healthy too.
- Enjoy A ‘Fika’ Break – For many generations, (I have heard that) Swedish workers have understood the importance of including ‘Fika’ into their working day. Fika is basically a Swedish coffee break, one in the mid morning and one early afternoon. It’s a moment to appreciate the good things in life and also to slow down. It allows for somebody to take a step away from working and to just be present in the moment, you can do it alone or with a friend. I think we should include this into our own lives as it’s a wonderful way to take a moment of gratitude by living in the present moment. I think it would be beneficial to anybody, even if you aren’t in a workplace environment…Why not get away from the task that you are doing for a few minutes whilst you drink your tea or coffee and take your own ‘Fika’ break.
There are so many other ways I could of added to this post that hopefully would help you to feel happy with ‘enough.’ However I didn’t want to bombard you with advice and sometimes the simplest steps can be the most effective and life changing. I really hope you feel inspired to try at least one of these ways out and see how it makes a difference in your own life.
