3 Simple Ways To Create Emotional Space, No Matter What’s Going On…

Afternoon Lovelies,

Do you ever feel like the busy demands of life leave you with very little time for self-care? Perhaps you feel rushed off your feet with work commitments, the school run, family life or many other stresses like financial or daily chores etc… I once heard a fabulous quote that I try to remind myself of during the more demanding moments in life: “We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them.” I think this quote is spot on as it’s so important to remember that YOU can choose how to respond to situations. I wanted today’s post to be a short and sweet one, which will give you a little bit of inspiration for creating that much needed emotional space and self-care time no matter what’s going on in your world. We all know the importance of self-care and having those moments of ‘me-time’ and getting some clarity of thought away from all of the hustle and bustle is a must as it can do wonders for your mind, body and soul. So below are 3 simple ways to help you create that much needed precious time for yourself…

  • Wake Up Early, When The House Is Still – For me the early morning is a wonderful time of the day to dedicate to yourself, whilst the house is still quiet. Waking up at about 5am gives you time to focus on just you, perhaps you could use this time to meditate or to listen to the world slowly waking up around you with the birds starting to sing and the sun starting to rise, maybe you’d use the time to figure out what the plans are for the day ahead to avoid rushing or not knowing what you need to do, or maybe you’ll just use this time to sit and be still enjoying your morning cuppa with gratitude and awareness. Whatever you find sets you up for a good day do that in those quiet and still early morning hours. You will find yourself feeling more refreshed and ready for the day ahead.
  • Throughout The Day Allow Yourself To Have Some Still Moments – We have thousands of different thoughts throughout the day so no wonder we often find that our minds are whirring away and thoughts are popping here there and everywhere in our heads. It’s important to give yourself moments of the day to just be still and present even if you can only squeeze in a couple of minutes here and there for example; when you are making a cup of tea or sitting on your commute or on your lunch break. In still moments like these you might find that your mind starts whirring away with different thoughts but visualisation can be a wonderful tool to use when you notice this happening. Everytime you become aware of the thought, simply just blow it away as if it’s a light and soft fluffy cloud and bring yourself back to the still and present moment that you are in. You can still do this in noisier spaces you don’t need complete silence to be still, just remember that the noisier the space the more you will need to concentrate to go within and focus on the present stillness inside of you. If you enjoy meditation and find that it refreshes you then use these moments throughout the day for shorter meditation sessions to keep you grounded and present.
  • Allow Your Body Time To Unwind At The End Of The Day – Think about what brings you calmness and relaxation at the end of the day? Perhaps it’s relaxing in a warm bath, listening to calming music, taking a short stroll outside or journaling… For me I enjoy lighting candles for a soft glow in the home and dimming the lights, making a warm cuppa, snuggling down in blankets and relaxing with a good book or listening to a interesting podcast. Aromatherapy in the evening I also find perfect for winding down before bedtime. Set time aside each day in the evening to allow yourself to wind down with the things that relax and calm you, make this your evening ritual of relaxation that will help you to unwind before you sleep.

I hope that these 3 simple ideas for creating those precious moments of self-care and emotional space no matter what’s going on are helpful and useful to you. I would love to know all of your thoughts on this and if you have any other suggestions to add. How do you create moments of emotional space daily for yourself? Leave all of your comments below as I love hearing from you all.

Love, Charlotte

    1. I fully agree with you and it’s great that you try to wake early (I know it can be difficult early morning wake-ups but knowing what benefits you can get from it is what motivates me out of bed!) Thank you so much for taking the time to read! Xx
