Balance And Harmonise Your Yin And Yang Energy

Afternoon Lovelies,

Have you ever connected with someone who was the complete opposite to you but you both just clicked and it just worked maybe, people told you that famous saying of “opposites attract”… but in other words they are the yin to your yang. This is just one common example of yin and yang energy. Learning about yin and yang has always been interesting to me and according to traditional Chinese Medicine the world is formed of energy (qi) that can be divided into two forces these two forces are yin and yang. Traditionally yin is feminine or negative and yang is masculine or positive. Everything from the changing of seasons to the taste of food falls roughly into one or the other. But if your yin and yang energies are out of balance this can negatively impact your health and can contribute to a decline in health. When you have to much yin this can lead to cold and damp diseases like coughs, colds, congestion and pneumonia and when you have too much yang you are more likely to suffer from inflammation, fevers, high blood pressure, arthritis and IBS. You can however encourage yin and yang harmony within your body through a variety of different methods.

There are lots of different ways that you can harmonise your yin and yang energies and I once heard a fabulous and very helpful description about rebalancing them…’Think of it a little like steering a car down a narrow and straight road, you want to keep in the middle and not veer too much to either side.’ A wonderful way to balance your yin and yang energy is through gentle forms of mindful activity such as; Journaling, Meditating, Tai Chi or Gentle Walking. Like I mentioned before there are other ways to harmonise unbalanced yin and yang energy but I personally find gentle forms of mindful activity the most effective. I also wanted to share this simple meditation technique which I love that will help you to make a start on rebalancing your yin and yang energy when you’re feeling out of sorts.

  • Start by breathing deeply and evenly. Bringing all of your attention to the breath. Focus for eight counts.
  • As you inhale deeply visualise light and when you exhale visualise darkness whilst making a loud humming sound like a bee. You will feel it resonate around your head.
  • If you notice your mind wandering at any time gently return it back to the focus on your breath.
  • Do this simple meditation exercise for as long as you like/are comfortable for.

When you keep your body’s yin and yang energies balanced you will reap some amazing benefits; you may feel more emotionally resilient, physically stronger and your immune system will become strengthened. It also may help you to feel more peaceful aswell because balanced energy can have a positive impact on your mental wellbeing too.

Having balance makes us more present, self-aware and allows us to feel more at one with the universe. I would love to know your thoughts and feelings on this post and if you have any ways that you personally love that helps with harmonising your yin and yang energy I would love for you to share them down in the comments below.
