Celebrate The Summer Solstice With These Creative Ideas

Afternoon Lovelies,

Tomorrow (21st June 2021) marks the longest day of the year with Summer Solstice. Summer Solstice is an ancient festival of joy and gratitude that basically marks the start of Summer. Traditionally people celebrated; the return of the light, life, fertility and the potential for a good harvest on the Summer Solstice. Because it’s the Solstice tomorrow this is the perfect time to share on my blog some ideas in which you can celebrate the vibrant energy of the Summer Solstice this year.

  • Create Some Sun Images – Get your creative juices flowing and craft some images of the sun. You could paint or embroider these images or use any other creative tools to make your sun. After your sun images are complete place them in your windows or hang them carefully on a nearby tree to add some brightness.
  • Make A Midsummer Altar – Find an area in your home to create a midsummer altar, make sure you use bright and colourful colours for it. Add some different cloths/material to it, include different coloured candles like pink ones or orange ones and add some summer fruits and flowers (if you can include the magical midsummer herbs like; Thyme, Vervain, Mugwort and St John’s Wort.) You could also decorate your altar with some seasonal items like shells and include any photos that inspire you (these could be of your favourite people that you know personally or places that inspire you.) Don’t forget to add something fun that signifies joy and life like; balloons, bubbles, rainbows, sun-catchers etc… the choice is yours. And finally add some feel-good essential oils which will create a wonderful mood boosting atmosphere (Geranium or Rose would be perfect for this.)
  • Get Outdoors – Gather with your family and friends somewhere outdoors; perhaps go to a beach, a sunny hilltop, your local park or even on your balcony or in your garden is just as fine. Have a wonderful time connecting with everyone and enjoying their company whilst getting some refreshing fresh air and bathing in the sun light. For an added treat why not enjoy an outdoor feast together filled with seasonal and locally grown produce. YUM!
  • Make Your Own Flower Crown – Making a flower crown is a fun way to celebrate the Summer Solstice and they are super pretty. Do abit of research on how to make one, choose your favourite flowers that you want to include and then have fun making it.
  • Think Spirals and Circles – Spirals and circles are associated with the Solstice so why not create some artwork with this shape/pattern. You could paint some pebbles or even create a spiral artwork piece with pebbles on the ground, or you could make some spiral or circle shapes with twine/wire and add some crystals to them and then hang them gently in the trees.
  • Include The Fire Element – Solstice celebrations usually include a fire (traditionally it’s built of pine and oak.) Bringing the fire element to your Solstice celebration is wonderful and is my favourite part. You could either build a bonfire or include some candles in lanterns. Just make sure that whatever you choose it’s safe and you aren’t hurting the environment. As the sun eventually drops take it in turns to tell stories, talk about happy memories/shared times and sing songs and dance around the fire element. I think it’s also a lovely idea to generously share your appreciation for each and every member of your ‘tribe’ and send love to those who can’t be with you.

I hope you loved reading these ideas for ways that you can celebrate the Summer Solstice. I’m extremely interested to know how you personally celebrate the Solstice each year so feel free to share your ideas down in the comments below. And as always I love hearing all of your thoughts and opinions on the post so share them in the comments too.

Wishing you all a Solstice full of bright blessings!
