3 Tips To Tackle Wakefulness… And Get Back To Dreamland

Afternoon Lovelies,

We have all experienced those nights when you find yourself struggling with getting to sleep or waking in the middle of the night and being unable to fall back to sleep. I wanted to share with you 3 tips that I hope you find helpful for the next time that you experience this, I’m really hoping that you find at least one of these tips useful to get you back to dreamland and sleeping soundly again…

  1. Stop Clock Watching! – Counting the minutes will only heighten your anxiety about being awake and clock-watching is honestly one of the worst things you can do. Instead why not try to force yourself to stay awake… work as hard as you can to keep your eyes open using only the power of your mind to keep yourself awake. You can blink occasionally but you are not allowed to read, watch T.V or move around. You may find this surprisingly tiring.
  2. Apply The ‘Quarter Of An Hour Rule’ – If you lie in bed unable to sleep for long periods of time then you will start to associate your bed with wakefulness and maybe some agitation too. If you really can’t sleep after 15-20 minutes then get out of bed and go to a different room, make sure you do something that isn’t too stimulating for 20-30 minutes and then return back to bed. Repeat this until you are able to fall asleep again.
  3. Try Out The ‘Magic Yawn’ – How you feel is influenced by the way you behave for example; when you smile it leads you to feeling happier and by forcing your brow to frown and turning your mouth down at the corners this will make you feel sadder. This is also true for sleep so why not give tricking your body into becoming tired a go. Let your eyelids feel heavy and droop, allow your body and muscles to feel heavy too and fake a yawn or two. You might find this magically works for you.

I truly hope you find at least one of these tips helpful and I would love to know if you have any other relevant tips to add/share, if you do feel free to leave these in the comments below as your ideas are always welcome. Like always I love hearing from you all so I would love to know your thoughts and opinions on this post aswell.

  1. I’ve read that talking (mentally) to yourself in a sleepy voice also helps you to fall asleep sooner.
